Bed Types & Headboards

A great bed starts with a good bed frame - we've outlined the main types for you below.

Bedsteads
(bed frames)

If your looking for a wide choice of different designs and materials, bedsteads can't be beaten. They are available in countless stylessizes and colours.

Most bedsteads are delivered flat packed and require assembly

Divan Beds

Divan beds consist of a base and mattress (headboards are usually not included). They are easy to assemble; the mattress goes on top of the base. The bases usually come in two sections (so they are easier to deliver and manoeuvre around a house) and simply need to be mounted (on castors or gliders) and fastened together. Divan beds are available in two styles:

  • Platform top – a firm base with a supportive feel
  • Sprung edge – a base with mini springs for increased comfort and durability

If you need extra storage for your bedroom, choose a divan bed with 2 or 4 drawer options

  • 2 drawers- single beds have drawers on the same side or at the foot end
  • 4 drawers – tend to be available on small double and larger beds
  • End drawer only – either slide drawer or pull-out
  • Single slide storage – great for accessing storage in tight spaces

Adjustable Bases

An adjustable bed is a bed which has a multi-hinged lying surface which can be profiled to a number of different positions. Common adjustments include inclining the upper body and raising the lower body independently of each other.

Bunk Beds

Bunk beds and cabin beds are a popular option for parents and children. They are fun as well as practical and space-saving.

Headboards

Headboards have grown in popularity and can create a focal point in any bedroom. They are usually an optional extra to give you more choice but these days often coordinate with the divan base. Like most things in the bedroom, your headboard acts as a style statement and will be a dominant feature, so it’s worth doing a bit of research before you buy one.
